Exquisite Retro Transitional Cut Engagement Ring

This outstanding ring comes to us from the late Deco/early retro period and is as stunning today as she would have been nearly 100 years ago. The daintiest yellow gold band is met with a white gold head, stepped and diamond-studded shoulders just barely easing the transition into a hefty 1.20 cart transitional cut diamond. The cut, as its name suggests, encompasses a range of proportions from the classic old European cut (known for its flat culet, broader facets, and smaller table) into the modern round brilliant cut that came to dominate the market. As is the case with antique cutting styles, the transitional has far more variation stone to stone than brilliants; this particular one is beautifully proportioned with a small but visible crisp culet, and pavilion facets like delicate petals. The girdle of the stone is faceted, most likely at a later time. This ring feels contemporary in its dainty styling, but possesses the charm and character that only a piece that has already lived several lives can have.
