This breathtaking turn of the century ring features a sensational cat's eye chrysoberyl, sunk low and smooth into the thickest hunk of gold. The highly-sought gem is prized for the optical effect called chatoyancy, which occurs when an abundance of needle-like rutile inclusions align themselves perpendicular to the crystal axis as the chrysoberyl grows. When cut in a cabochon, the end effect makes it appear as though a skinny line of light is hovering over and dancing about on the stone's surface. Of particular desirability with this stone is the "milk and honey" effect, where one side of the ray is golden and the other side white. Stones of this size can easily fetch thousands of dollars alone - never mind sitting in a mass of high karat gold! The ring itself is wildly comfortable despite its generous proportions; the soft curves feel wonderful between the fingers and the underside of the face has been rounded as well into a comfort fit. This eye catching ring is sure to bring you so much joy (and so many compliments).

Very good antique condition in line with age and use, including wear to stone and gold.
