Superb Diamond and Sapphire Art Deco Ring

This stunning ring has everything: slim lines and airy volume, a crisp diamond and bright sapphires, wheat and orange blossom engraving, historic elegance and everyday wearability. We're smitten! A true art deco piece, nearly everything about this ring is period-specific. The 18k white gold mount has been die-struck, a process favoured at the time for its ability to create lightweight volume and delicate filigree-like wirework while maintaining a strong and sturdy form. The sides and shank of the ring are decorated in those 1920s thematic favourites, wheat and orange blossoms: the orange blossoms represent the purity of the bride and the couple's evergreen love, while the wheat patterning is a wish and blessing for prosperity and fertility. Two bright synthetic sapphires epitomize the early 20th obsession with rapidly developing new technologies (and the triumphant culmination of decades of attempts to recreate the gems in a lab), and the transitional cut diamond is just that - a brief sweet spot between the hand-cut charm of the old European and the new mathematically-determined round brilliant.

A ring with some history under her belt, she's not without character and flaws: one of the triangular sapphires was replaced at some point with a close-but-not exact match; being a little smaller, the stone had some prongs built around her compared with her bezel-set sister on the opposite shoulder. Additionally, at the base of her shank she's suffered from a less-than-subtle attempt to confirm metal purity, as she's unstamped. Her bright diamond is nearly a third of a carat, but cleverly set in a mount known as an illusion setting - the graver work on the metal along with the octagonal frame are meant to give the appearance at a distance of a full carat stone.
