A beautiful vintage French love token, in a covetable laurel border version. Created c. 1916 by Alphonse Augis and inspired by a letter poet Rosemonde Gérard wrote to her husband, the writer Edmond Rostand, the pendant features a rebus reading "+ qu'hier - que demain" for the lines,

"Car, vois-tu, chaque jour je t'aime davantage,
Aujourd'hui plus qu'hier et bien moins que demain."

(For, you see, each day I love you more,
Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.)

The beautiful sentiment lends itself perfectly to a lover, a child, or a friend - on anniversaries, birthdays, or simply any day. We also love this piece as an engagement ring placeholder for the couple looking to choose a ring together.

These love tokens are widely reproduced and imitated, but the quality of the Maison Augis pendants (always die struck and never cast) have made them a very collectible piece, even after over 100 years of production and many style variations.

Very good vintage condition.
