Crafted in a warm, rosy yellow gold shank with a white gold bezel, the inner shank of the ring bears the fox head stamp used in the combined Austro-Hungarian empire. Inspired by the French hallmarking system (as a result of French occupation in Austrian territories during the Napoleonic Wars), this set of stamps was in use from 1867 until the defeat and dissolution of the empire in World War I, with the resulting newly formed nations establishing their own systems by 1922. The white gold bezel offers a further dating clue: while the alloy was first invented in the mid-19th century, it wasn't commercially available until 1912, gaining more widespread use in the 1920s.
