Dreamy, ethereal, and unlike anything we've ever seen before, this unique diamond ring has an old world charm crossed with modern practicality. A curious old stone, obviously hand cut, takes centre stage in this piece: the diamond, every so slightly ovoid in outline, is cut not as a rose cut (a flat-bottomed dome with triangular checkerboard facets), but rather as simply the crown facets of a full cut diamond: the central table is flat across and parallel with the unfaceted, smooth base of the stone, and ringed with the standard 32 facets - eight star facets (triangular and edging the table), eight bezel facets (kite-shaped and connecting the table to the girdle, or outer perimeter), and 16 upper girdle facets along the edge. While the lack of a pavilion (the cone-shaped base of a full cut) tames the light performance and the parallel table and base mimic the clear window of a portrait cut, the diamond's relative lack of inclusions (there's a small white spot at one side of the table) give it an unbelievably glassy look. Similar to a rose cut, there is plenty of reflection of white light from the stone's polished surfaces, but a more subtle amount of rainbow "fire," localized around those facets towards the edge of the stone. Quiet and romantic, perfect for those looking for something a little more subdued than a traditional disco ball on their finger! The gentle presence of this stone is perfectly matched with a chubby bezel frame and a thick, rounded band: the beauty of a flat bottomed stone is the ultra low rise of this ring which, paired with the protective natural of the setting, make this a comfortable and low-fuss ring for modern life.
It's worth noting that diamonds - peerless grease magnets they are - typically hide their filthy little secrets through the power of their light performance; flatter stones like this one (ditto rose cuts and portrait cuts) will want more regularly cleaning and TLC in order to look their best. A regular bath of gentle soap and warm water (plus an extra-soft toothbrush, and never forget to plug your sink) and a soft pat dry will do wonders for maintaining the appearance of this stone.

Very good vintage condition with wear in line with age and use, including evidence of past resizing and some small chips to underside of diamond.
