Bold Estate Caduceus Charm

A beautiful and substantial rendition of a caduceus in warm gold. The caduceus has an interesting history in its association with the medical profession: historically, the caduceus - a winged rod entwined by two snakes - was the symbol of Hermes, the messenger god. The simple staff with a single snake coiling it, the Rod of Asclepius, was the symbol of the god of medicine and healing. Their similar appearance has often led to confusion, further cemented by the late 19th century adoption of the caduceus by the US Army for their medical corps, which lead to its spread (mostly in the USA) throughout medical and related fields to this day.

Excellent estate condition with very little wear.
