While diamond and gemstone line bracelets and necklaces go back to at least the early 20th century, the "tennis" part of their name is usually traced back to athletic superstar Chris Evert's affinity for a diamond bracelet (among other jewels) that she wore while playing and, famously, nearly lost in a 1978 US Open match. Easily pictured on a country club-going, twin set-wearing type, tennis bracelets and necklaces alike have stormed their way into wider popularity as jewelry lovers everywhere look to up their wrist and neck messes.
This estate piece is perfectly designed as a demi-eternity, with a segment of of diamonds along the front and a simple gold chain through the sides and back where diamonds are often not seen anyways. The settings are linked along one side rather than flat under the setting (as in a bracelet) in order to help prevent rolling over, but at this length some movement should naturally be expected.
Very good estate condition with wear in line with age and use.
Details:
• 14k yellow gold, stamped and tested
• 18" long with a secondary closure at 16"; diamond segment is 2.6mm wide, 2.6mm high, and 7 1/4" long
• 78 natural round brilliant diamonds approximately 3.12 carats total weight, overall G-H SI
• 7.8g
