A tiny keepsake, to commemorate the newest member of the family. Baby rings were well-loved by the Victorians, who were at once sentimental and practical. With infant mortality as high as it was (globally, in 1880, around 38% of children died before they reached the age of 5), a piece of jewelry marked the occasion of the birth and could also be held close as a keepsake at a time when photographs of a lost child weren't readily available.
We love the small scale of these pieces, and the way they can elevate an everyday ring stack by being worn as a pinky or midi ring, or strung along a chain with other charms and talismans. This would make a great gift for a new parent, the baby of your family, or your love. Or maybe just for you - cuz you're nobody's baby!
Good antique condition with wear in line with age and use, past resizing visible. Evidence of original enamel visible, but nearly all worn away.
Details:
• 10k yellow gold, unstamped but tested (trademark G. J. Co)
• Size 3 and can be resized within two sizes
• Ring measures 3.3mm wide and 1.1mm thick
• 1.0g
