Darling Personalized Vintage Médaille d’Amour Pendant
A beautiful vintage French love token, in a petite, cushion-shaped version with a subtle engraving on the back. Created c. 1916 by Alphonse Augis and inspired by a letter poet Rosemonde Gérard wrote to her husband, the writer Edmond Rostand, the pendant features a rebus reading "+ qu'hier - que demain" for the lines,
"Car, vois-tu, chaque jour je t'aime davantage,
Aujourd'hui plus qu'hier et bien moins que demain."
(For, you see, each day I love you more,
Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.)
The beautiful sentiment lends itself perfectly to a lover, a child, or a friend - on anniversaries, birthdays, or simply any day. We also love this piece as an engagement ring placeholder for the couple looking to choose a ring together.
These love tokens are widely reproduced and imitated, but the quality of the Maison Augis pendants (always die struck and never cast) have made them a very collectible piece, even after over 100 years of production and many style variations.
Good vintage condition, with moderate wear throughout. Please note wear to bail - we recommend having this reinforced and will include the repair in the purchase price, but have chosen to photograph and list the pendant as is so that the hallmark and trademark stamps can be clearly seen, as there is a chance they will be obscured in repair.
