An absolutely breathtaking piece, featuring a plate of old rose cut diamonds in a elongated, slim navette shape. The style takes its name, "navette," from the french for "little boat" for its dynamic shape. Similar to a marquise (which would be the stone cut rather than the cluster shape), the long, tapered form is extremely flattering on the finger, while the tightly set diamonds offer the exact right amount of sparkle - a balance between the soft subtlety of the rose cut and the impact of the pavé.

As is typical of the period, the diamonds have been cut by hand, so can often be out of round and a little wonky, with a range of different sizes. The shank appears to have been part of a later refurbishment, possibly a full reshank or else maybe a conversion from a brooch, but is seamlessly added in a way that makes the cluster appear to float between the shoulders.

This ring would make a beautiful and unique engagement ring, though it would require a little babying with the long shape and many small stones - if you're up for it, you'll certainly be rewarded by this truly charming ring.
