Dazzling Sapphire and Emerald Day and Night Flip Ring

While we've all had a good laugh at the meme pointing out that none of us are going "day-to-night" the way women's magazines of the '90s insisted we would, rest assured this notion goes back way further than the glossy pages of our youth. While much of jewelry prior to the mid-20th century was categorized distinctly as appropriate for either day or evening/night, jewelry lovers have long wanted versatility. In the Georgian and Victorian periods, adding a pair of "coach covers" (plain gold spheres that covered the gemstone drop on on earring) not only concealed for the sake of safety but also modesty, and many a drop earring had a detachable enhancer to up the drama after dark.

The "day and night" flip ring emerged from this tradition in the Art Deco period and had another surge in popularity in the 1950s. The ultimate in versatility, the ring style features a primary eternity band with a row of matched stones on one side and a different stone lining the opposite side, as well as two hinged half eternities that allow you to create solo or stacked looks on either half. Flip the bands for a streamlined single eternity look with sapphire or emerald, or add one or both diamond bands for an impressive effect. Almost always seen in platinum or white gold and usually with rubies paired with sapphire and diamond, this rare yellow gold rendition with emeralds and sapphires positively delights.
