Founded as Monocraft in 1927, the Providence-based company that would become Monet started out making monograms for all manner of items (cars, purses, jewelry - you name it), and in 1934 hired a designer who had worked at Cartier and launched their jewelry line under the name Monet in 1937. Their designs were known for striking style, texture and attention to detail, and superior quality from their beginnings to present, even as they have passed through other owners' hands.
