Elegant Vintage Marquise Solitaire Ring

A unique take on the solitaire style, this gorgeous vintage ring features a sparkling marquise cut diamond set diagonally on a swooping white gold band. The marquise cut has experienced waves of popularity through her lifespan: designed c. 1745, in Paris for King Louis XV, who requested a diamond in the shape of his mistress' smile, the stone has inspired designers (and frustrated stone setters) ever since, reaching peak popularity in the Art Deco era and from the 1950s-1980s. She appears to be making a ferocious comeback, unseating the oval and then pear shapes for those in search of a unique and flattering alternative to a classic round brilliant.

The ring itself is heavy weight, but makes use of a curved shape and negative space cut outs to impart a feeling of breezy softness to complement and contrast the belly and points of the diamond which appears to almost float above the band.

Good vintage condition with moderate wear commensurate with age and evidence of past sizing in multiple places.
