While opals had been known and admired since around 4000 BCE and written about effusively through the Roman empire, it wasn't until the best quality stones were found in Australia in the 1860s that they truly began to boom in popularity. Queen Victorian was a known lover of opal, and this late Victorian ring would have been as coveted when it was new as it is now. Crisp, sparkling diamonds pop between each magical and fiery opal, all set low and comfortably into buttery, high karat gold. While five stone rings are often chosen for anniversaries, this ring would make a wedding day "something old," or elevated stacking ring.

Please keep in mind that opals are not compatible with hand sanitizers/alcohols.

Very good antique condition with reasonable wear, including evidence of past resizing that has left ring slightly out of round. All stones are original to the ring and secure in their mountings.
