Heavy Vintage Bloodstone Ring

One of our favourite features of bloodstone - a variety of polycrystalline quartz named for its unique appearance - is that no two specimens are ever exactly alike. Recognized for its deep green near-opaque field ("jasper," the quartz material) shot through with red from iron oxides, there's no wonder that for millennia its admirers have believed it to wield great power. Thought at various times to promote rapid healing (and prevent wounds), to confer strength (and even invisibility!), and to encourage creativity; these features are just as likely as its striking, dramatic beauty to be responsible for its continued popularity.

This ring features a heavy, rounded mount cradling a very large stone for exquisite finger coverage and presence, with a wonderfully thick band.

Good vintage condition with wear in line with age and use, minor evidence of past resizing.

• 9k yellow gold with full British hallmarks for Birmingham 1972, maker's mark JH and brand name Lifetime
• Size 8.25-8.5 (slightly out of round) and can be resized within two sizes
• One oval bloodstone approximately 15x12mm
• Face of ring measures 17.3mm wide, 14.3mm across, with a rise of 3.8mm; back of band measures 4.2mm wide and 1.9mm thick
• 8.4g
