Since at least 1400 BCE, signet or seal rings have been tools (serving as signature or seal) as much as they have been markers of status, and the weight and craftsmanship of a sturdy engraved piece will make you feel that immediately. As family crests waned in use, the signet came to communicate other kinds of belonging, used to mark membership in societies like the Freemasons, fraternities, schools and teams.

Jewelers Dieges & Clust were specialists in service medals and sports trophies and rings. Established in New York City in 1898, they later expanded to Boston, Pittsburgh, and Chicago before being sold to Carnation in 1980. Among their work is the 1937 MLB World Series Yankees ring, as owned by Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig - and this fine class or fraternity ring.

Good vintage condition with wear in line with previous use, including significant wear to stone face. 1954. Originally manufactured in the US. Stone engraved with a boar and Latin motto "Altiora Peto," "I seek higher things." Inside engraved, "EBH '54."
