Lush Victorian Ruby and Diamond Ring

Heavy and buttery 18k gold give this ring an incredible feel on the hand, while three bright rubies spaced by two sparkling diamonds twinkle from within their star-shaped gypsy settings. A classic Victorian piece with warmth and heft, this ring is the ultimate in comfort with its low rise and tapered band, and the gypsy-set stones add colour and shine.

Unfortunately, a past resizing has excised the date stamp, but the style is classic late Victorian. Though worn, the 18k purity and London assay stamps remain, and a lingering (but illegible) ghost of a sponsor's mark is visible on the band as well. On one side, the two smaller, outer stones have been replaced or reset at some point, as evidenced by the extra graver work to hold the ruby in place and the difference in shape of the diamonds (the replacement stone has a bit of a salt and pepper look from inclusions and is rounder in shape, while the original stone is a bright old mine cushion). On the hand, these features are hardly noticeable and don't detract from the beauty and character of this lovely ring.
