Crisp and minimal, this gorgeous signet ring pairs warm yellow gold with a blank slate of black onyx. Onyx, a type of agate quartz, is known for its pure black tone and striking opacity. Though the term onyx has come to be synonymous with the popular black variety, in its natural state it is actually banded, and has been made solid black through the use of natural dyes for hundreds of years.
Very good vintage condition, with lovely wear and patina to the band while the stone remains in excellent condition. Minor evidence of past resizing.
Details:
• 9k yellow gold, with full British hallmarks for London 1979, and what appears to be a variation of the trademark of Fred Manshaw Ltd.
• Size 5.75 and can be resized within reason
• Black onyx slab approximately 10mm x 8mm
• Face of ring measures 12.5mm wide, 9.5mm across, with a rise of 3mm; back of band measures 3.2mm wide and 0.8mm thick
• 2.6g
