For all the ways that jewelry can end up in a dealer's hand, we almost never know the story behind the original owner or provenance of a piece, even something as sentimental and personal as a signet ring. For similar reasons, it's rather rare that a corresponding pair of rings would managed to stick together, especially when not trading as a lot - but here we seem to have just such a case, and hope deep in our hearts that there is another MF & DG pair out there.

There's such a special feeling in finding a preloved piece that already has letters on it that are meaningful to you, that we play pretty fast and loose - maybe it's the first or last initials of you and your lover, or your own in another order, or the initials of a loved one: no matter what, it will feel sentimental every time it catches your eye.

Very good vintage condition with reasonable wear in line with age and use. c1941. Originally manufactured in the UK.

• 18k yellow gold face, with a later replacement 9k yellow gold shank (unstamped but tested)
• Size 4 7/8 and can be resized within two sizes
• Face of ring measures 12.2mm x 11mm with a rise of 0.9mm; back of band measures 2.1mm wide and 0.7mm thick
• 3.7g
• Face of ring is engraved DG, inside of ring is engraved MF to DG, 1-1-41 - it looks from the spacing like there might have been another digit after the second 1, but unfortunately it's impossible to make out what it may have been, if anything
