Lockets and signets rings are independently some of the oldest styles of jewelry recorded - signet rings have a rich and long history, while lockets emerged from jewels that might be more accurately described as vessels - meant to hold perfumes or tinctures or herbs. The locket as a holder of keepsakes - portraits (photographic or earlier), hair, and the like - rose in popularity in the 19th century and has been particularly popular during wartimes ever since, as a way to hold close to you those who are physically far. While a combination locket-signet ring isn't a needle in a haystack find, they are fairly rare and delightful to come across.
Good antique condition with wear in line with age and use, including patina throughout. Pin on hinge moves around a little, but is secure. Please keep in mind that the locket is not watertight, and care should be taken to remove the ring when washing hands (or applying sanitizers/alcohols) if you have anything inside. There is an inner frame piece that is removable, and can be used to hold something (flat-ish) down inside the locket. Closure is secure with a satisfying click.
Details:
• 9k yellow gold, stamped and tested, with British hallmarks for Chester 1918, maker's mark GM
• Size 8.75 and can be resized within reason
• Face of ring measures 14.4mm wide, 9.5mm across, with a rise of 2.6mm; back of band measures 2.4mm wide and 1mm thick
• 3.1g
