While opals had been known and admired since around 4000 BCE and written about effusively through the Roman empire, it wasn't until the best quality stones were found in Australia in the 1860s that they truly began to boom in popularity. Queen Victorian was a known lover of opal, and with the surge in popularity of opals in fine jewelry, naturally there was demand for the unique gemstones to be set in more affordable combinations as well. This particular ring, still in buttery 18k gold, was crafted with three opals spaced by a quartet of old cut paste imitating diamonds. Though these softer glass stones and the opals bear some wear (and one side opal has been replaced somewhere in the last 110 years), there's certainly still charm and life in this ring!

Please keep in mind that opals are not compatible with hand sanitizers/alcohols.

Very good antique condition with wear in line with age and use.
