Romantic Antique Engraved Locket
Romantic Antique Engraved Locket
Lockets have been around in some form or another for hundreds of years. They emerged from jewels that might be more accurately described as vessels - meant to hold perfumes or tinctures or herbs. The locket as a holder of keepsakes - portraits (photographic or earlier), hair, and the like - rose in popularity in the 19th century and has been particularly popular during wartimes ever since, as a way to hold close to you those who are physically far. This piece ups the sentimental ante with a face decorated in forget me not flowers, a shield-shaped panel engraved with the initials "EE," and a facing pair of photos of a young man and woman.
Very good antique condition, with original photos intact. Closure and inner frames secure, photographs can easily be swapped out.
