Scintillating Art Deco Diamond Ring
Scintillating Art Deco Diamond Ring
Like an airy dream, this delicate little piece is a wonderful and feminine ring. Die stamping technology, popular in the early 20th century, allows this ring to have delicate filigree-like wire work and a softly doming volume while remaining lightweight and sturdy. Centering on a quarter-carat old European cut diamond, the shape and polish of the mount are intended to give the illusion of a larger diamond within a bright milgrained frame. Details along the shoulder include a criss-crossed design like a soft ribbon, and orange blossom flowers. While the tradition of gifting orange blossoms for a wedding reaches back to Greek and Roman mythology, naturally it was Queen Victoria who reignited the craze when she wore a wreath of orange blossoms in her wedding to Prince Albert. The flower has been said to represent fertility for its association with bearing fruit, purity for its white blossoms, and eternal love for its source on an evergreen tree. As such it was a well-loved motif for engraved and die-struck wedding bands, particularly in the Art Deco period, and continues to be used today to give modern jewelry a vintage feel.
Good antique condition, with a small break to the outside detail of one shoulder that doesn't travel to the bulk of the band.
