Vibrant Silver and Enamel Sarcophagus Charm
For as long as people have been discovering ancient artifacts, we've been trying to emulate their styles and techniques. We can especially see this every time discoveries were made of Egyptian antiquities - Napoleon's forays into Egypt and the 1809-1826 publication of Description de l'Égypte launched inspired styles in the early Victorian era, and the 1922 discovery of King Tutankhamun spurred a bout of Egyptomania in the Art Deco period through mid-century.
This fun little charm, an enamelled sarcophagus, would have once held a little mummy inside but it's been lost to time. Modelled in 800 silver (just under the 925/1000 parts purity for sterling silver), with a gilt interior, we love imagining a history lover selecting this piece as a souvenir after being moved by an exhibition of artifacts.
The charm opens up (though carefully, and not to full extension because of the bail), revealing the golden insides, and snaps shut with a satisfying click. We love this charm on a bracelet full of treasures, or worn alone on a chain as a pendant. Let the little sarcophagus serve as a reminder to keep an curious mind and open heart to cultures of different places and times, or even as memento mori - that this precious life is fleeting and we are all mere mortals. YOLO!
