Smooth and Minimalist Victorian Belcher Ring

A charming Victorian style (that made a comeback in the 1930s-1940s - my own grandmother had a similar engagement ring!), this sweet piece is both warm and worn while still being clean and minimal. The old European cut quarter carat diamond has a personality all its own and a beautiful faceting pattern and sparkle.

Some evidence of past repair, including a prong that was rebuilt a little long and reaches out around the stone like a cosy gold hug.

• 14k warm rosy yellow gold, unstamped but tested
• Size 5.5 and can be resized within reason
• One old European cut diamond approximately 0.25ct SI2 (with white and black inclusions) I-J (though the stone can appear warmer from the deep patina in the scallops of the setting); what at first glance appear to be tiny chips at the girdle of the stone are in fact naturals - when the circumference of the stone is very close to the faces of the rough crystal, sometime cutters will leave some of the natural edge exposed to gain the highest yield when cutting
• Face of ring is 7.2mm wide with a rise off the finger of 4mm, back of band is tapered to 1.4mm wide and 0.7mm thick
