Striking Antique-Inspired Red Paste Earrings

A vibrant and gorgeous pair of Victorian-inspired earrings, modeled after the dormeuse style but with easy to use lever back closures. Each earring is set with a vivid faceted red glass stone, that appears from testing to get its deeply saturated colour from colloidal gold (as opposed to the other common red colorant, selenium). Glass has been used as a simulant for natural gemstones for thousands of years, and from the Middle Ages through the Victorian era - particularly after the development of leaded glass, called paste and known for its greater sparkle - faceted glass was a regular and celebrated part of even fine jewelry.
