Clean, minimalist lines and design make the paperclip link feel like an utterly modern chain, but versions of this favourite elongated link have been around well over a hundred years. While a timeless style like this can feel unmoored from history, it's a history buff's delight to find specific and unique markings - in this case, a West Germany stamp and a British import hallmark that put it smack in the middle of the 40 year period from which it could have come.
