Vintage Enamel Violet Earrings
Vintage Enamel Violet Earrings
A striking pair of enameled flowers drop to the jawline in this pair of Arts and Crafts-inspired earrings. The early 20th century movement was a response to the dark and mechanical Industrial Revolution, and jewelry that emerged from it focused on sinuous lines, bright colours (often achieved through enamel), inspiration from nature, and a focus on hand-wrought materials. These beautifully crafted vintage silver earrings take clear aesthetic cues from the movement, and perhaps a light inspiration from the popular late 19th century love of the "secret language of flowers."
Though the concept dates back considerably earlier, the Victorians were particularly enamoured of floriography - the pairing of distinct meanings to each flower (and often varying by colour). The blue violet symbolized love and faithfulness, as well as watchfulness and modesty.
Good vintage condition with wear in line with age and use.
