Vintage Gold Kewpie Charm
Vintage Gold Kewpie Charm
Originally designed c. 1909 by cartoonist Rose O'Neill, the Kewpie is a cherubic character with a large head and tiny wings, meant to spread joy and kindness. The character enjoyed immediate success and was developed into popular dolls that continue to be popular with collectors today. The character appeared in marketing, political cartoons, novelties and memorabilia throughout the first half of the 20th century, though today its most notable association is with a Japanese mayonnaise! This adorable charm is most likely of the interwar period, c.1930.
