Carnelian, a variety of red chalcedony, is one of the oldest known stones used in jewelry, with research showing that regularly faceted beads were made of carnelian as early as the 5th millennium BCE. The stone was especially well-loved in Roman jewelry, being carved to create intaglios in signet rings.

Timeless in style, this carnelian signet ring is clearly inspired by its predecessors, thought it only dates as far back as the 1970s. Sleek lines and clean, minimalist modelling makes this a perfectly unisex ring, and easy and comfortable to wear on any finger upon which it fits. The smooth blank slate of the flat stone has just enough translucence to showcase the ruddy colour, while the clipped edges of the elongated octagon shape provide just enough flair.

Good vintage condition with wear in line with age and use.
